Castle & Bathhouse
It stands on the 1,710-metre summit of Takkeli Mountain, from where the Konya plain is visible in its entirety. The castle's history is traced back to the Hittite period, but the defensive structure standing today was built by the Byzantines in the 7th century to protect the city against frequent Arab raids. It was also used defensively in the Seljuk period. Excavations carried out since 2012 have uncovered walls, cisterns, temple remains and mills. The climb to the summit is steep and stony; proper shoes and water are needed.
