The minaret and stone facade of a mosque in Sille

The Ak, Karataş and Subaşı Mosques

18th–19th century

Mosque

By the end of the 19th century there were seven mosques in Sille. Their historic examples include the Ak Mosque of 1864, the Karataş Mosque dated to the 18th century, and the Subaşı Mosque. All are within walking distance and share their streets with the churches — which is what shows Sille's fabric of coexistence most plainly: a mosque across from a church, a fountain beside a holy spring.

The photograph shows an example of mosque architecture in Sille.

Opening hours can change. Entry to the Aya Eleni Church is free; the days and hours it is open differ between sources (Mondays are usually closed). We recommend confirming with the Konya Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism before you set out.
